Bard's Tale IV: The Barrows Deep
I worked on Bard's Tale IV: The Barrows Deep at InXile for almost two years. I was hired on as a Level Designer and was in charge of designing, implementing, and maintaining 8 dungeons. This included the creation and maintenance of each level's Level Design Document. I also helped implement and maintain 20 other levels that I did not design. I implemented and maintained over 150 puzzles, over 30 of which I fully designed. I helped the art department by propping out and doing terrain editing for over 30 POIs. Took responsibility for implementing the grid-based movement system throughout the entire game. I was actively involved with gameplay and level flow testing, and often the one tasked with making the changes to the levels and their puzzles.
The list below is what I was in charge of for any levels I owned.
-
Planning and documentation, starting with paper drawn maps and ending with whiteboxed levels for art to prop.
-
Maintaining any documentation and levels for changes in the design.
-
Implementing any puzzles in the level.
-
Placing combats and any other NPCs, as well as other design assets like lore notes and doors.
-
Playtesting to make sure everything worked to specifications.
-
Implementing the grid-based movement system for the level.
-
Bug Fixing.
